Introduction

Palakkad is yet another beautiful district in the ‘God’s Own Country. Sharing borders with the nearby state of Tamilnadu, Palakkad is filled with greenery all over. It is the largest district in the state of Kerala and accounts for a huge chunk of Paddy fields in the state.

People living here speak both Malayalam and Tamil. You will face no issues even if you are not fluent in these languages as the people of Palakkad also know to handle a decent amount of Hindi and English.

Just like any other part of Kerala, Palakkad has no dearth of tourist places. In fact, there are a number of places such as Silent Valley National Park, where one should never forget visiting while in Palakkad. 1. Parambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary

Parambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1973. This sanctuary has been very rich in its flora and fauna. From its initial spread of 285 square kilometers, it has gradually increased to 391 square kilometers. Its buffer zone is a place that has various tourist activities, thus bringing the total area to 643 square kilometers.

Now, it is an established Tiger Reserve, which provides a home for several endangered tiger species. For visiting this magnificent place, drive 76 kilometers from Palakkad.


2. Palakkad Fort

Palakkad Fort has ancient origins and is located at the heart of Palakkad City. The structure was completed as it stands today by Sultan Hyder Ali in 1766. This place has great historical importance as it unfolds the story of Palakkad from hundreds of years back.

The ground next to the fort is currently used as a stadium for cricket matches and major gatherings..

3. Silent Valley National Park

Silent Valley National Park, which is about 40 km from the city of Palakkad, lives up to its name and is highlighted by deep tranquility to epitomize the area. The widely perceived reason behind the name ‘Silent Valley’ is the complete absence of noisy Cicadas in the region.

The forest spans 90 square kilometers, with an additional buffer zone covering 148 square kilometers. You will find a large variety of rare flora and fauna in Silent Valley. To feel closer to nature, do consider paying a visit to this place while you are in Palakkad. Of course, this is a must-visit Palakkad Tourist Place.


4. Malampuzha Dam -Palakkad

Malampuzha Dam is on our list of must-visit places in Palakkad for a reason. This is in fact among the largest dams in the state of Kerala. The Dam is constructed over the Malampuzha River.

Historical details apart, Malampuzha Dam as a tourist destination stands high for what it has to offer. The scenic beauty one will get from here is just awesome. You can also get to enjoy some tourism activities such as boating which will make your visit worthwhile.

You can reach here by a tiny ride of around 8 kilometers from Palakkad city. So don’t miss out!


5. Malampuzha Garden (Rock Garden)

This is a garden that stands as a part of Malampuzha Dam. The specialty of this garden lies in the name of the person who designed this garden itself. The famous ‘Nek Chand’ was the one who designed and constructed this rock garden. Everything in the garden is carved out from rocks, and hence, it is a unique and captivating site.

It is the perfect place for visitors with friends and family where one can dive into and indulge fully into the beauty of the well-crafted sculptures. Kids, In particular, will find this a paradise for their dreams. Don’t forget to take a sip at this beautiful Garden.


6. Attappadi -Palakkad

Attappadi is a must-visit place in the Palakkad district as it contains a variety of Flora, Fauna, and indigenous tribes living here. The place with an area of 249 square kilometers is categorized as a reserve forest. One will find a wide variety of rare animal and plant species over here.

For several decades now, the indigenous tribes here enjoy the right to use the resources available in the forest for their livelihood. People from outside have a limited role of being guests. 7. Kollengode Palace

This is a place one should consider visiting if they got the time in their hands. This palace was constructed by Vasudeva Raja of Kollengode in 1904 to gift it to his daughter. A lot of belongings of the King are here on Display.

As of now, the place acts as a museum where you will get to see things from the past. Also if you are someone who knows to appreciate the design aspects of an old building, then this place is for you. This palace is a blend of native and western design elements. There is no reason for not adding this gorgeous place to our list of ‘Palakkad Tourist Places’!

8. Fantasy Park -Palakkad

This is a private amusement park with a lot of rides available at the best price. This place is going to be a heaven for families coming along with their kids. You will find it entertaining when you come along with your friend gang as well.

9. Nelliyampathy

10. Jain Temple

There is a legend that this very place where Kumaranasan, a renowned poet of Kerala, composed his epic poem, *Veenapoovu*.
