Introduction
Kanyakumari is the southernmost place in the Indian subcontinent. The beauty of this place is the fact that it is the meeting point of the three seas that surround India – the Indian Ocean, the Arabic Ocean, and the Bay of Bengal. In fact, the opposite shore of Kanyakumari is Sri Lanka, a completely different nation! The place is also regarded as a holy venue both by Hindus and Christians in several aspects.
Kanyakumari boasts of having several spectacular tourist destinations. Out of them today we are going to look at 10 such beautiful venues one must consider visiting while they are in this southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent. Let us have a look at those places.
1. Vivekananda Rocks -Kanyakumari

This is a historical place that comes first in the mind of any visitor reaching Kanyakumari. Swami Vivekananda, a sage who lived in India in the 20th century was believed to have gotten enlightenment while meditating in this rock. This monument was built in the year 1970 and has millions of visitors turning up every year. There is also a quiet room for meditation near to the monument which is dedicated to visitors who want to spend their time in a quiet ambiance.
There is also another story that dates back to several thousand years associated with this rock. The Goddess Parvathy believed to have performed tapas in the devotion to Lord Shiva. No doubt this place comes first in our list of ‘Kanyakumari Tourist Places’.
2. Thiruvalluvar Statue – Kanyakumari

At the time of writing this article, this statue is the 25th tallest statue in India. The 41-meter tall statue was constructed to celebrate the life of Thiruvalluvar, the great Tamil Poet who lived several thousand years ago in the current state of Tamilnadu. Thirukkural, the greatest work of Thiruvalluvar is praised for its philosophical value and the ability to touch every part of one’s life.
In fact, it is evident that no literature work from the period of Thiruvalluvar has an impact on human life as effective as Thirukkural. This giant monument was inaugurated in 2000 by the then chief minister of Tamilnadu, Shri. M. Karunanidhi. Undoubtedly, one must visit this place to celebrate the life of this legend. Undoubtedly there is no wrong in placing this place in our list of places to visit in Kanyakumari.
3. Padmanabhapuram Palace – Kanyakumari

This is one of the oldest palaces located in India which was constructed in the 16th century AD by the then King of Travancore Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. Padmanabhapuram used to be the capital of the Travancore for several centuries. One of the peculiarities of this palace is that although the place is located inside Tamilnadu, it is owned and maintained by the Government of Kerala.
The palace is reachable from Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, and Thiruvananthapuram by a small ride of fewer than 60 kilometers. In fact, this might be the reason why this place was chosen as the capital. The construction, design, and ambiance give us a glance at a period several centuries before our existence. This is a must-visit place irrespective of whether you are a solo traveler or come with a group. The place has it all to satisfy you all.

4. Kanyakumari Beach

Kanyakumari Beach is referred to as the southernmost beach on the Indian mainland. The beach is predominantly known for the mesmerizing sunrise and sunset one gets to see from here. The spectacular view of both Vivekananda Rocks and the Thiruvalluvar Statue is worth a mention. In short, If you reach Kanyakumari Beach, practically, you have covered the first three places in our list of ‘Kanyakumari Tourist Places’ just by visiting this place.
5. Wax Museum

This is a popular spot in Kanyakumari where both kids and adults enjoy spending their time. Wax statues of several famous personalities are on display. It is fun to take photographs with these statues that look similar to the real individuals they represent.
You will find the effigies of public figures like Jackie Chan, Sharukh Khan, and many more here. It would be a missed opportunity if you fail to visit this place while you are with your kids and friends. Certainly, it is a must-go place in Kanyakumari.
6. Bharatmata Temple

Bharatmata temple is a temple built in the 21st century (After 2000), in an area of 12,000 square feet. The specialty of this temple is that it has a Ramayana Mandir inside it which represents Valmiki Ramayana.
The camera is not allowed inside. If you are someone who is interested in the Ramayana, then this place is for you. You will find this a soothing spot for your mind and body. The distance between the Vivekananda memorial and this location is less than 1km. I strongly believe that it is a good decision of me to add this spot to our list of ‘Kanyakumari Tourist Placeskaruvadu.
7. Vattakkottai Fort

Vattakkottai fort is a circular fort built in the 18th century by the then Kings of Travancore. It was basically a fortification built to protect the Kingdom from the attack of enemies. This building is made up of Granites and has volumes to speak about its historical importance.
Now a part of it extends to the sea. Over the years. the fort has also become one of the favorite tourist destinations of people visiting Kanyakumari. Don’t forget to visit here if you actually want to get to see most of the history of this area.

8. Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam

This is a monument built in memorial of the father of our nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’. Gandhi visited Kanyakumari twice. After his death in 1948, his ashes were brought to the exact location where this mandapam stands right now. Construction of this monument completed in the year 1956.
Take your time to visit this mandapam to celebrate the life of the one who got us independence. Undoubtedly, we should have this place in our list of tourist places in Kanyakumari.
9. Baywatch Theme Park

Baywatch is an Amusement park in Kanyakumari which is located near the Wax Museum. Kids and Adults will find this place amazing. One of the must-visit places in Kanyakumari if you are into entertainment.
10. Our Lady of Ransom Shrine

This is among the oldest Roman Catholic Churches in Kanyakumari.The churchwas constructed in the 18th Century. The deity here is Mother Mary of Jesus Christ. If you are someone who is into religion and history, then this church is a must-visit place while you are still in Kanyakumari.
